This web site, about Thailand, The Land Of Smiles, is designed to be of use and of interest to both 'Old Thai Hands' who know Thailand and Newbies who might be unfamiliar with travelling in Thailand.
On this page you will find a description of what this site is about and how to navigate around it.
'Thailand Travels' contains text about, and photographs taken, in a wide range of places of interest in Thailand.
'Thailand Travels' consists of both personal reminisces and observations, general impressions as well as solid factual information.
There are also, distributed throughout this site, Thailand Travels, a lot of links to other sites about Thailand and they will attempt to comprehensively cover all aspects of Life in Thailand for both travelers and ex pats, for the high lifers and the low lifers, for the people living or travelling on a budget or for people who are not unduly concerned about their expenses. Although Thailand can be 'done' on a budget it is much more fun to have plenty of money to spend.
Of the many Thai destinations included on 'Thailand Travels' of course, will be the capital of Thailand, Bangkok.
For me, in many ways, Bangkok is Thailand or at least synonymous with Thailand and before I arrived in Bangkok, many years ago I had never realised how much fun it was possible to have. At least for me. So Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, The City of Angels, will have a whole section dedicated to it. If you would like to know more about Thailand and, in this next section, Bangkok, click here
Other destinations and major centers of interest included in 'Thailand Travels' that will have a whole sections dedicated to them, will include Pattaya, Chang Mai, Chang Rai, Kantancaburi, Hat Yai, Ayudhtaya, The Islands-Ko Samui, Ko Phang Arn, Ko Samet, and Phuket and of course North-East Thailand, Esarn.
It's a funny thing but when foreigners go to Thailand they usually always meet Esarn or Issan People, they are the people who come from an agricultural population from the North East of Thailand. But most foreigners never actually visit the area Isarn.
The people of Isarn form a diaspora cast throughout Thailand as many have left their impoverished rural life behind and settled all over Thailand to get work and improve their lives.
Throughout the site there will be underlined hyperlinks to enable the user to move around the site and there will be a destinations list on the left of the page. There will also be go to and return to links at the top and bottom of all the pages.
All Photographs will also have act as links as well as have text information triggered by a mouse/cursor role over, they are 'hot spots'. Try putting your mouse cursor over the golden buddha at the top left of this page.
When I tried to think of an over arching photographic theme for this the first page of 'Thailand travels' many things went through my mind, images of thai food, smiling people, beautiful women, palm fringed beaches, elephants pilling teak, temples and of course Buddhas. It was a difficult call.
I regret that dreadful guide book The Lonely Planet Guide deals with Thailand because there are so many better ways to learn about Thailand and there are so many better ways to plan your trip to Thailand.
Oh! Remember to put your mouse cursor over the photographs to get information and links |
