This part of Thailand Travels is about Pattaya's walking street which defies description so check out these videos which give you a taste of the place. try the fist video which is shorter but has less scenes and titles. Rember to turn on your speakers to listen to the Pattaya Pattaya Anthem!
Now look and listen to this video below which start at a boran show, shows Buddha mountain, the beach and then the madness of walking Street, Pattya style
Pattaya, once a small fishing village, is now a booming tourist destination and one of the most popular cities in Thailand for both foreigners and Thais alike.
It is fun city. Pattayta is siutated on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand about 165 km southeast of Bangkok near Chonburi.
Although Pattaya is famous for its "vibrant" night life it also provides a veritable feast of fun for non 'nocturnal activities'. For example check out The Sanctuary of Truth or see the giant Buddha carved into a mountain at Buddha Mountain
For those of us who, for the sake of our karma, if nothing else, like to balance the vice with the nice this website hopes to provide illustrated suggestions for lots of interesting things to do in and around Pattaya.
There are many areas of outstanding natural beauty, parks, temples, museums and islands in the vicinity of Pattaya. There is also great diving, golfing and fishing.
Getting to Pattaya
Pattaya is about two or three hours drive from Bangkok and about two hours drive from the new Bangkok Airport, which although it comes in for a lot of criticismn I personally like. The new airport, Suvarnabhumi is nearer to Pattaya than the old airport Don Muang, which functions mainly as a domestic airport.
You can travel to Pattaya from Suvarnabhumi Airport by Meter Taxi, Limo or Bus. It is not a particularly pleasant or safe journey so a decent sized Limo or bus is to be recomended. As with all taxi/limo travel travel in Asia do not put your luggage in the boot, especially your passport or valuables. Be aware of ripp off taxi drivers and cowboy companies who operate in the airport area.
Driving from Bangkok is a 2 -3hour drive along Bangna-Trat Highway via Bang Pakong, Chon Buri and Si Racha. but now there is a super highway/toll road enabling you to avoid urban traffic jams. But even the new routue is a chore and a bore
One advantage of large buses Air-con and non air is that they are safer than smaller vehicles. They depart often from the Eastern Bus Terminal (Ekkamai), The Northern Bus Terminal (Mochit) on Kamphaengphet Road and The Southern Bus Terminal on Borommarat Chonnani Road during most of the day. Obviously buses are a lot cheaper than taxi and limos and they can be fun if you are in the mood and have short legs. And now because the major bus stations can be reached via the sky train and the metro in Bangkok they are are more accessible than they used to be.
Although many do not know about it there is a train from Bangkok's Hua Lam Pong railway station to Pattaya. It leaves early and stops a lot but if you are not in a hurry: so what?
Once you reach Pattaya you hop in a 10 baht bus or 'songthaew' and hope it is going in your direction.
Although It is virtually impossible to list everything in and around Pattaya here are some excellent days out. They include:
